Boat Trailer Parking

PRELIMINARY: under construction

To determine boat trailer usage, a 14-day Survey (10am) was undertaken.

The Survey realised how under-utilised the 7-Day Boat Trailer parking is.

Most trailers observed = 5, Lest observed = 0. Average is 3.5 boat trailers at 10am each weekday = 35% utilised.

BTW - open water wind conditions at Banana Bank were observed via an app at the same survey time.....95% of the days were ideal boating conditions

Weekday 7-Day Boat Trailer parking. Typical view at 10am: many vacant bays

Parking of box trailers in 7-Day Boat Trailer parking bay is illegal = $167 RCC fine.

The boating community see the 'Suggestion' of a temporary 'Concession' allowing Disability Parking Permit holders to use vacant 7-Day Boat Trailer Bays as a threat....Let's provide a 'Suggestion' to mitigate this perception.

Sat/Sun Boat Trailer parking bays.

Weekend parking is illegal = $167 RCC fine.

In this photo - 32 cars and no boat trailers.

All 16 double bays occupied.

SUGGESTION: 7-Day Boat Trailer parking

Boaties get frustrated when they see illegal parking in these dedicated boat trailer only bays.

The signage at each end is easily missed - one sign hidden by a tree.

It was suggested to RCC to improve the signage, and, to paint 'BOAT TRAILER ONLY' on each of the 10-bays.

This 'in your face signage' clearly identifies the parking bay usage - will act as a deterrent to illegal parking.

As a temporary measure, the international symbol for Disabled Parking is also displayed.

See attached render of this suggestion.

Redland City Council were challenged about the allocation for boat trailer parking.

Their response was the the design was in accordance to 'GUIDELINES FOR THE PROVISION OF RECREATIONAL BOATING FACILITIES 1996'

This Guide is confusing and stressed that every design situation is different.

RCC would not provide their calculation methodology.

The Guide suggest that to 'observe each ramp of interest' was the simplest solution: see attached.

That is the process undertaken with the 'Survey' - Refer attached snip.
