'Angina Hill' at Macleay Island - Gets Your Heart Rate Up.......Great for Some - Potential Killer for Others
Special Needs

THE CURSE OF ANGINA HILL
What about those with mobility issues, not Disability Parking Permit holders, needing to go to the mainland, and unable to walk down or up 'angina hill'?
To maintain their independence, they drive their car to the Ferry Terminal parking - Guess what: no parking at the lower level - the 'Curse of Angina Hill' beckons.
These Macleay Island commuters are actually more disadvantaged than those with a Disability Parking Permit!!!
Cr Shane Rendalls raised this issue, AND, he has a very valid point.
The difficulty is that these mobility impaired Macleay Island commuters will need dedicated parking bays.....
In addition, they need to have proof, from a doctor, that they have a temporary or permanent mobility issue, but not qualifying for the QLD Disability Parking Permit.
Possibly, they can receive a card...with RF tap capabilities?
Disability Parking Permit holders will need this card too.
NOW; let's solve the problem of lack of Disabled Parking bays and include qualify mobility impaired commuters, AND provide a dedicated parking Zone for both groups.
Let's call this zone 'SPECIAL NEEDS'
Refer attached aerial view - the highlighted Zone is ideal for this application.
Accessed via a boom gate at the west - RF Card activates boom. solar powered
Exit via a boom gate at the east - vehicle sensor activates boom. solar powered
A 1.8m gap separates boom from path - allows motorbike/bike access.
'SPECIAL NEEDS' ZONE
This is left field thinking.
